I'M CERTAINLY INCLINED TO AGREE WITH KENNEDY'S ASSESSMENT OF THE VIETNAMESE PROBLEM-WAY BACK IN NINETEEN SIXTY-THREE. I took little Owen Meany into that passageway once, and I got him lost in there, in the dark, and I frightened the hell out of God, what a situation! Suddenly I felt like my father-I am my sorry father's sorry son, I thought. And if by some miracle he managed to catch it, he couldn't throw it; his hand was too small to get a good grip.
